Welcome to my gallery, hope you enjoy it. Feel free to give constructive critique, that's something I always appreciate. If you want constructive critique yourself, just ask and I try to take a look when I have time. Also if you have any questions about photography in general or my works, ask and I'll try to answer with my limited knowledge.
The Journal
Well, not really that much to do with art, but just had to share it here too... though probably no one would be interested.

But I finally managed to return my master's thesis today. Basically that means that I have a bit more time on weekends and weekdays to use for photography, so I hope I can spend more time shooting then.
In case anyone would be interested, the title was (translation from Finnish) somewhat "Increasing shareholder value with customer selection in business-to-business marketing".
Also after last journal I managed to buy a teleconverter for my Sigma 100-300mm f4. 1.4x teleconverter makes it basically 140-420mm f5.6 lens, quite nice for bird photography. It seems to have good enough image quality, at least when stopped down to f8 and nice AF tracking with HSM.
Also you might have noticed my few latest bird photos that were taken with the combination. Now I just have to wake up some morning far too early to go and find if there would be some interesting birds to shoot. Something else than these gulls.
And finally, now that I have my studies somewhat finished, I think it's time to start looking for new apartment. Well, that's really interesting story, but I'm trying to find a nice 3 room apartment for me and my birds. And still no new feature... perhaps I should try to spend some time with that too.
Features
Simple and great, just right DoF and tones.

Basic portrait without any special tricks. Just great lighting and model pose make this really striking image.

Just amazingly original idea for still-life:

Just really beautiful portrait.

Personally I'm using Sigma 100mm-300mm f4 for reach, paid 600€ for it second hand. Good image quality and really fast AF. And in 35mm film format it would be 450mm (same as those numbers you gave). With teleconverter I can get 630mm f5.6 in 35mm format.

Yes, I think superzooms are flexible enough for beginners with ambitions.

I would guess that you could enjoy dSLR when you can get it. I personally used a super zoom camera for few months only and got a dSLR after that. You don't need to be good photographer for it, just have good graps of basics of photography.

thank you for the motivating, inspiring and informative articles about photography. They held quite some useful info for me.
I feel a bit like you, when you wrote that you started at some point with the idea to improve your skills.
I'm in a similar situation currently. I always liked taking pictures, but I was a mere party/sunday snapper for years.
But my girlfriend opened the door for me into this wonderful and rewarding world and I bought me what I considered to be a good and not too expensive model for beginners (Fuji Finepix s8000fd).
At the moment I'm just inhaling every guide, tutorial, etc. about photography. And I practise a lot of course.... well, at least when there is time.
Hehe, I also started to save money for a DSLR.
I was browsing your gallery and you have quite some amazing shots. I especially like those where you used the grad filters.
Btw you are welcome to browse through my deviations and feel free to comment.
Kind regards,

You seem like a guy with good attitude for photography. I watched you too, so if you're interested, I can try to give some constructive critique from time to time.
And if you see anything wrong in my photos, I'm happy to hear it, to improve my skills.
